Samuel Jason Black, better known as Sammy Black, is the eldest son of actor, comedian and musician Jack Black and artist-musician Tanya Haden. Born on June 10, 2006, Samuel grew up surrounded by acting, comedy, filmmaking and music, but he has not simply lived in his famous father’s shadow. He has already experimented with voice acting, directing, editing and making short films, while keeping much of his personal life away from constant celebrity attention. IMDb credits him with work on Kung Fu Panda 3 and his father’s Jablinski Games series.

Who Is Samuel Jason Black?
Samuel Jason Black is the first child of Jack Black and Tanya Haden.
For many people, that alone makes him interesting.
His father is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable comedy stars, known for movies such as School of Rock, Nacho Libre, Jumanji, The Holiday and the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
His mother is also creative.
Tanya Haden is a cellist, singer and visual artist who performs with her sisters Petra and Rachel as The Haden Triplets. She is also the daughter of influential jazz bassist Charlie Haden.
So Samuel grew up in a family where music, art, comedy and storytelling were normal parts of everyday life.
That background helps explain why he became interested in making movies and helping behind the camera while he was still young.
How Old Is Samuel Jason Black in 2026?
Samuel was born on June 10, 2006.
That means he turned 20 years old on June 10, 2026.
A PEOPLE article published earlier in 2026 referred to Samuel as 19 because it appeared before his June birthday. The same article showed that he and younger brother Thomas remained part of family celebrations as Jack and Tanya marked 20 years of marriage.
So as of September 2026, Samuel is 20.
Where Was Samuel Jason Black Born?
IMDb lists Samuel’s birthplace as Los Angeles, California.
That makes sense given his parents’ strong connections to the Los Angeles entertainment and music worlds.
However, details about the exact place where he currently lives should not be guessed.
Samuel is now an adult, but he still keeps most personal information private.
Why Is He Called Sammy?
Samuel is commonly called Sammy by his family.
PEOPLE reports that the name was inspired by legendary entertainer Sammy Davis Jr.
That is a fitting name for someone born into such an entertainment-focused family.
Sammy Davis Jr. was famous for singing, acting, dancing and comedy.
Samuel Black has not followed exactly the same path, but he has already shown interest in several creative areas himself.
Who Is Samuel Jason Black’s Father?
Samuel’s father is Jack Black, whose full birth name is Thomas Jacob Black.
Jack became famous through a combination of acting, comedy and music.
Some of his best-known work includes:
High Fidelity,
Shallow Hal,
School of Rock,
King Kong,
Nacho Libre,
Kung Fu Panda,
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,
Jumanji: The Next Level,
and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
He is also one half of the comedy-rock duo Tenacious D.
But when Jack talks about Samuel and Tommy, he often sounds less like a movie star and more like an ordinary proud parent.
In 2019, he told PEOPLE that both sons had been creating short movies on their iPhones and described them as highly creative.
Samuel’s Relationship With Jack Black
Samuel appears to have a close relationship with his father.
Jack has regularly taken his sons to premieres.
They have appeared in videos together.
And Samuel even became involved behind the scenes on Jack’s YouTube project, Jablinski Games.
Jack has also spoken publicly about how fatherhood changed him.
In a 2023 interview, he said becoming a parent made him realize how much time and energy he would spend worrying about his sons and wanting the best possible life for them.
That gives a different view of Jack Black than the wild, loud comic character audiences often see on screen.
At home, he has described himself as a father who worries, supports and encourages creativity.
Who Is Samuel Jason Black’s Mother?
Samuel’s mother is Tanya Haden.
She is an accomplished artist and musician in her own right.
Tanya plays cello and sings.
She also studied experimental animation and earned an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. PEOPLE describes her as both a musician and visual artist.
She performs with her triplet sisters Petra and Rachel Haden.
Their group, The Haden Triplets, released a self-titled album in 2014 and later The Family Songbook. Their official website describes the sisters’ long history across rock, jazz, folk and experimental music.
Samuel therefore inherited creative influences from both sides of his immediate family.
Jack Black and Tanya Haden’s Marriage
Jack and Tanya knew each other when they were students at Crossroads School in Santa Monica.
They did not begin their adult relationship until years later.
PEOPLE reports that they reconnected after high school and eventually eloped in 2006.
Samuel was born only a few months after the marriage.
In February 2026, Jack celebrated the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary by sharing old family photos, including pictures of Samuel and Thomas when they were younger.
Their long marriage has given Samuel a relatively stable family background despite growing up around Hollywood.
Does Samuel Jason Black Have Siblings?
Yes.
Samuel has one younger brother:
Thomas David Black, often called Tommy.
Thomas was born on May 23, 2008, making him nearly two years younger than Samuel.
The brothers have appeared together at several public events and in their father’s online videos.
They also share some creative interests.
Jack said in 2019 that both sons were making short films on their phones.
Samuel and Tommy Black
The two brothers seem to have grown up with similar opportunities but different personalities.
Jack has never publicly said that either son must become an actor.
Instead, he appears to encourage them to explore whatever creative interests feel natural.
Samuel has shown particular interest in filmmaking.
Tommy has also been connected with music, martial arts and filmmaking interests in family profiles.
That means the next generation of the Black family may remain connected with entertainment without necessarily becoming traditional Hollywood actors.
Samuel Jason Black Comes From a Famous Musical Family
Samuel’s family history becomes even more interesting when you look at his mother’s side.
His maternal grandfather was Charlie Haden, one of the most respected jazz bassists of his generation.
Charlie performed with major jazz artists and became especially known for his groundbreaking work with saxophonist Ornette Coleman.
Tanya and her sisters Petra and Rachel are musicians.
Their brother Josh Haden is also a musician and leads the band Spain.
That means Samuel grew up around professional music on both sides.
His father plays music with Tenacious D.
His mother plays cello.
His grandfather was a jazz legend.
His aunts and uncle are musicians.
Creativity runs deeply through the family.
Is Samuel Jason Black an Actor?
Samuel has at least one documented acting credit.
IMDb credits him as the voice of Rabbit Villager in Kung Fu Panda 3, released in 2016.
Jack Black, of course, voices the franchise’s main character, Po.
Samuel’s role was small.
So it would be an exaggeration to describe him as a major professional actor based only on that appearance.
A more accurate description is:
Samuel has some acting and voice-acting experience, but his stronger documented creative work so far has also included directing, editing and camera work.
Samuel Jason Black in Kung Fu Panda 3
Kung Fu Panda 3 became one of Samuel’s earliest screen-related credits.
IMDb lists him as Rabbit Villager.
Samuel also attended the film’s Hollywood premiere with his father in January 2016.
Getty Images and ABC News both documented Jack and Samuel together on the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
Samuel was still only nine years old at the time.
The appearance gave fans one of their first clear public looks at Jack Black’s eldest son.
Samuel Jason Black and Jablinski Games
Samuel became much more involved behind the scenes with Jablinski Games.
The project began as Jack Black’s YouTube-based comedy and gaming series.
IMDb credits Samuel as:
director on 15 episodes,
editor on 17 episodes,
and
camera operator or “shot by” credit on 15 episodes during 2018–2019.
Those are much more substantial credits than a single voice role.
They suggest Samuel was learning how video content is actually produced.
Not just performing.
But filming.
Editing.
Directing.
And helping shape the final result.
Did Samuel Really Direct His Father?
Yes, according to the available production credits.
IMDb’s Jablinski Games crew information lists Samuel Black among the directors.
One 2019 episode, “LETS PLAY BRUTAL LEGEND!,” credits Samuel and Taylor Stephens as directors and also lists Samuel among the people appearing in the episode.
That means Samuel was getting real hands-on experience with digital filmmaking when he was still in his early teens.
It is one of the strongest clues about where his creative interests may eventually lead.
Samuel Has Been Making Short Films
Samuel’s interest in filmmaking goes beyond Jablinski Games.
In December 2019, Jack Black told PEOPLE that Samuel and Tommy had both been making short films using their iPhones.
Jack said he was proud of their creativity.
Later, Jack said Samuel was interested in using stories from his father’s Hollywood experiences as inspiration for a movie.
Samuel reportedly wanted to turn some of those stories into fiction without directly identifying the character as Jack.
Jack encouraged him to do it.
That is a strong sign that Samuel is interested not just in recording videos but in storytelling.
Could Samuel Jason Black Become a Director?
Possibly.
He already has documented directing and editing credits.
He also made short films as a teenager.
And his father has publicly encouraged his storytelling interests.
But there is an important difference between potential and confirmed career.
There is no strong public evidence in 2026 that Samuel has announced a major studio directing project or established himself as a full-time filmmaker.
He is only 20.
He has plenty of time to decide what he wants.
So it is more accurate to call him a young creative with filmmaking experience rather than declare him a major director already.
Does Samuel Jason Black Sing or Play Music?
Samuel has grown up in a highly musical family, and PEOPLE has reported that he shares some of his father’s musical interests.
However, some websites go much further and call Samuel:
a professional singer,
band frontman,
rock musician,
or recording artist.
Those claims are not strongly established.
There is no major verified discography showing Samuel with a professional album career.
So while music may be part of his life, it should not be presented as an established commercial career without stronger evidence.
Samuel Jason Black’s Public Appearances
Samuel has occasionally joined his father at major Hollywood events.
One of the best-known was the Kung Fu Panda 3 premiere in January 2016.
In September 2018, Samuel joined Jack, Tanya and Tommy when Jack received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
UPI identified the whole family together at the ceremony.
Samuel and Tommy also attended the September 2018 premiere of The House with a Clock in Its Walls with their parents.
In December 2019, Samuel appeared with Jack at the premiere of Jumanji: The Next Level.
Jack Black Mentioned Sammy at His Walk of Fame Ceremony
When Jack Black received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2018, he joked about passing the entertainment torch to a younger generation.
Among the names he mentioned were Tommy and Sammy Black.
UPI reported the joke as part of his speech.
It was funny, but there was also something meaningful underneath it.
Jack clearly recognizes that his sons are growing up around the same creative world that became his career.
Whether they choose to enter that world professionally is up to them.
What School Did Samuel Jason Black Attend?
Samuel’s specific educational history is not reliably public.
Some biography websites claim particular schools or colleges.
Strong mainstream sources do not provide enough confirmation to make those claims safely.
It is easy to confuse his education with his parents’ history because Jack and Tanya famously attended Crossroads School.
That does not prove Samuel attended the same school.
A careful biography should therefore say:
Samuel Jason Black’s detailed education and college plans have remained private.
Is Samuel Jason Black in College?
There is no strong public confirmation of which college, if any, Samuel attends in 2026.
At age 20, he would be around the normal age for university.
But age alone cannot tell us whether he is studying, working, making films, traveling or combining several activities.
No reliable source should be replaced with a guess.
Is Samuel Jason Black Dating Anyone?
His current romantic life is private.
There is no strongly documented public girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse or engagement connected with him.
Some celebrity websites automatically label young public figures “single” when they cannot find a partner.
That is not reliable.
The accurate answer is simply:
Samuel has not publicly established a relationship status in major reliable sources.
Is Samuel Jason Black on Instagram?
Samuel has used social media publicly in the past.
PEOPLE notes that he once posted a playful review related to Jumanji: The Next Level on Instagram.
However, social-media accounts can become private, inactive or change names.
For that reason, older follower counts should not automatically be treated as current in 2026.
His overall public presence remains much smaller than his father’s.
What Is Samuel Jason Black’s Net Worth?
There is no independently verified net-worth figure for Samuel.
Some celebrity biography websites assign him figures such as:
$500,000,
$1 million,
or several million dollars.
There is no public evidence supporting those exact amounts.
His parents are successful.
That does not mean their wealth can simply be counted as Samuel’s personal net worth.
To calculate his own finances, we would need reliable information about:
income,
contracts,
investments,
property,
business ownership,
savings,
and liabilities.
That information is private.
So the best answer is:
Samuel Jason Black’s net worth is not publicly verified.
Is Samuel Living Off Jack Black’s Fame?
That is too simplistic.
Samuel has certainly benefited from growing up in a successful entertainment family.
He had access to filmmaking.
He could visit movie sets.
He appeared at premieres.
And he was able to work on his father’s online series at a young age.
But the production credits attached to Jablinski Games show that he was doing actual creative work.
He was not simply posing for photographs.
He edited.
He directed.
He operated cameras.
Those experiences may eventually become the foundation of an independent career.
What Is Samuel Jason Black Doing in 2026?
There has not been a major public announcement establishing a new full-time career for Samuel in 2026.
He is now 20.
His strongest public interests remain connected with:
filmmaking,
editing,
directing,
storytelling,
music,
and family creative projects.
He has kept a fairly low profile compared with many celebrity children.
That may be intentional.
Jack Black has spoken proudly about his sons, but he does not seem to be pushing them into constant publicity.
Does Samuel Want to Be Famous Like Jack Black?
We do not know.
That is an important distinction.
Samuel clearly has creative interests.
That does not automatically mean he wants his father’s level of fame.
There are many careers in entertainment that happen behind the camera.
A person can be:
director,
editor,
cinematographer,
producer,
screenwriter,
composer,
or animator
without becoming a red-carpet celebrity.
Samuel’s early credits actually suggest that behind-the-scenes filmmaking may interest him at least as much as traditional acting.
Samuel Jason Black’s Family Creativity
Samuel’s family background gives him an unusually wide creative foundation.
From Jack, he gets exposure to:
acting,
comedy,
rock music,
voice acting,
and filmmaking.
From Tanya and the Haden family, he gets exposure to:
jazz,
folk music,
cello,
visual art,
animation,
and experimental creativity.
His maternal grandfather Charlie Haden helped change modern jazz.
His mother earned an MFA in experimental animation.
His father became an international comedy star.
It is therefore not surprising that Samuel started making movies while still young.
What We Actually Know About Samuel Jason Black
The verified story is more interesting than the rumors.
Samuel was born on June 10, 2006, in Los Angeles.
He is the eldest son of Jack Black and Tanya Haden.
His younger brother Thomas was born in 2008.
Samuel was named after Sammy Davis Jr.

He attended the movie’s premiere with his father in 2016.
He later became involved with Jablinski Games as an editor, director and camera operator.

personal income,
and net worth.
Final Thoughts
Samuel Jason Black’s biography is still being written.
At only 20 years old in 2026, he has already grown up around more entertainment history than most people experience in a lifetime.
His father is Jack Black.
His mother is Tanya Haden.
His grandfather was Charlie Haden.
His aunts and uncle are musicians.
His younger brother shares many of the same creative interests.
But Samuel has begun showing his own direction.
His small Kung Fu Panda 3 voice role gave him an early taste of acting.
His work on Jablinski Games showed something more substantial.
He directed.
He edited.
He helped shoot videos.
And as a teenager, he was already creating short films on his phone.
Jack appears happy to encourage him without forcing him into a particular career.
When Samuel asked about turning some of his father’s Hollywood stories into a fictional movie, Jack essentially gave him permission to take those stories and make something new from them.
That may be the most interesting clue about Samuel’s future.
He does not necessarily have to become “the next Jack Black.”
He could become something completely different.
A filmmaker.
An editor.
A writer.
A musician.
Or someone who chooses to keep creativity as a private passion rather than a public career.
For readers searching for Samuel Jason Black, the clearest answer is this: he is Jack Black and Tanya Haden’s eldest son, born June 10, 2006, a young creative with voice-acting and filmmaking experience, and a member of a remarkable entertainment and musical family who has so far chosen a much quieter public life than his famous father.
